Leadership course: Negotiation Strategies for Canadian Radiologists

A nationwide survey shows that Canadian radiologists want leadership and business skills to help improve their practices and careers. That’s why the Canadian Association of Radiologists (CAR), Canadian Radiological Foundation (CRF), and UBC Sauder have partnered to offer a series of courses: Leadership in Radiology. This year will be the second offering in the series and will focus on Negotiation Strategies for Canadian Radiologists.

Course Overview

This course has been co-developed by Canadian radiology leaders and UBC Sauder School of Business to teach business principles that are applicable to small and large problems pertinent to current challenges in Canadian radiology departments.

This workshop will include lectures and an extended focus on interactive and small group learning activities. The participants will have the opportunity to optimize their ability to effectively negotiate:

  • budget presentations to ensure medical imaging is a top priority
  • equipment purchasing decisions to upgrade outdated machines and instruments
  • “turf” issues with other specialties
  • group/practice work schedules to address waitlists.

Special guest lecturer, Dr. Frank Lexa, MD MBA, practicing neuroradiologist and Professor at Wharton School of Business in Philadelphia, will provide an opening lecture outlining the opportunities and risks facing our profession, and ways to adapt and indeed prosper under such circumstances.

Negotiation Strategies or Canadian Radiologists – Leadership in Radiology will take place in Montreal on April 24 and 25, 2018. The target audiences for this course are Canadian radiologists and radiology residents interested in business and leadership aspects of medical imaging.
